This is a reference book and not intended to be read cover-to-cover. That being said, its author - Scott Kelby - is an icon in the world of nonprofessional photographers and is the sole reason why I selected this particular book as my reference for Elements 14. Kelby's writing style is over-the-top enjoyable, combining "elements" of both clarity and humor.

I love this book. For a first time Photoshop Elements 14 user it is easy to understand and well illustrated. You don't have to read the entire book to learn how to use Photoshop Element 14 but rather look in the Contents at the beginning of the book, find what you are trying to accomplish and then go to that particular chapter. I would highly recommend this book.

Provides detailed examples on a limited number of things one can do with PE. This is what the book was intended for but is still pretty limited in what is shows. I use this along with Elements for dummies. Between the two I can figure out most (but not all) of what I bought the software for.

Scott Kelby writes excellent books. He teaches in a manner that is easy to follow & doesn't bog you down with unnecessary jargon. The way he formats his books allow you to quickly learn new information or seek specific answers to your questions. I purchased his set of photography books & his book regarding Lightroom. Highly recommended as a stepping stone to the full version of photoshop.

I'm usually pretty good at figuring out creative softwares and photo editing softwares, but photoshop & working with layers has always stumped me. I've wanted to take a photoshop class, but time just hasn't allowed it.....maybe eventually. For now, this book has helped me a ton. It's very straight forward, clear instructions, and gets right to the point. If you've had photoshop for years and never really learned how to use all the powerful editing tools, I very highly recommend this book. It has a cover price of $49.99 and after using it, I would gladly pay that, but Amazon has it for just over $28. Great deal!

Scott Kelby is a great teacher. From the very first page you get the feeling he is addressing you personlly! The instructions are provided in a very clear and concise manner. The only warning I will give the readers of this review is to follow his directions. When he suggest that you do something... DO IT! Had I followed this advise in the past I'd know a lot more today and would've saved gobs of time. Scott Kelby makes learning fun!

As described. Very well written and informative. First time using this author, and loved the downloadable lesson material to practice his lesson as describe in book. Would purchase this format again!

I purchase PE every other version, on the even numbers...so this was the year to upgrade to PE14. And with each new version of Elements, I purchase Scott Kelby's Book for Digital Photographers. It is the primary book I use as my source to answer questions about the software.

This book is both helpful for those who need a general idea of how to approach UX design and those who want flesh, bone, and practical application. This book tries to cover the field of User Experience from A to Z. As a result some of the information is very good and some is not very good. This is problematic because it is aimed at an audience that is new to user experience and that audience won't know the difference between good and not so good user experience practices. I can not recommend it.

Should be titled "Project Management of UX Designs for Very Large Websites", instead of "UX Design". 2/3 of the book consists of excellent details on web UX project management; 1/3 is webpages' UX recommendations, mostly on retail websites. For example, book writes more about workshop procedures to gather UX specifications than about webpages' UX specifications.Authors are premiere UX consultants in Great Britain, hired by sizable companies, frequently retailers. They write from such perspective, dealing with websites with budgets covering several specialists including visual designer, developer, marketer, product managers, campaign managers, etc. Excellent tips on how to involve committees and consensus-building during web UX design. Not for smaller websites.The book has weaknesses. 1. User design, I believe, should be tied into search engine and web marketing, and this approach doesn't. 2. The book is interested in profitability and returns on investments, but I feel it should have stronger emphasis. 3. Tie into social media in design is absent.Incorrect title and profitability weaknesses--4 star.Who would particularly benefit from this book?1. Buyers of UX services would learn what UX people do.2. A trainee for UX would learn a lot!3. A web designer without a UX department who suddenly lands a large project.

This lavishly produced book attempts to explicate the mysterious allure of 17th-century Dutch genre pictures, which were painted most famously by Johannes Vermeer. Syracuse professor Frantis frames these works in a historical context to demonstrate how audiences of the period would have interpreted them. The author explains how many of the objects portrayed in these works had coded meanings that are lost on modern audiences. For example, birds, oyster shells and cats were widely recognized as symbols of sex, while subject poses that look awkward to contemporary eyes were actually considered the height of dignified comportment by Dutch art patrons. Frantis also traces the history of Holland and the development of its art, arguing that the two are closely linked. His argument is that, as the country became wealthier, the subject matter of its paintings became increasingly refined, changing from satirical portraits of raucous, lazy peasants to elegant images of upper classes at play. In Frantis’s opinion, both portrayals are constructed types, and neither reflects the reality of Dutch life in the 17th century. To back up his thesis, Frantis has done impressive research into the culture of the period, examining its literature, songs, guides of behavior and poems. At the same time, he doesn’t neglect the paintings’ formal elements, deftly analyzing the artists’ influences, color schemes and use of tools like camera obscura. As convincing as Frantis’s interpretation is, it breaks down when applied to the work of two masters, Jan Steen and Vermeer. I can attest that this book offers a valuable corrective to the macro-analyses that so dominate the tourism literature. Dr. Cole’s micro-level longitudinal study is not only sensitively-written, but extremely astute. It resonates with so many themes I observed during my own fieldwork on tourism and cultural transformations in Toraja, Indonesia. About the Author
After studying social anthropology and extensive travel in Indonesia, Stroma Cole started her own tour operating business. For six years she led small groups all over the Indonesian archipelago. Following a period of consultancy with UNESCO and ADB she returned to the UK and took up her post at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. Stroma continued to visit the remote Ngadha villages on the island of Flores to study the effects of tourism. She completed her PhD in 2003 and has published extensively. She continues to research tourism in Indonesia and other less economically developed countries. She is chair of Tourism Concern.

I have purchased several How to Draw Manga books over the years, mostly while I was a teenager.I was obsessed with anime and manga as a teenager, and I just knew these books would help me get a career in drawing cartoons!Well.... they didn't, but that's not because of the books.Anyway, still to this day I enjoy flipping through them and reading the hints and tips even though my aspiring manga career is just a tiny memory in my sea of dreams. I recommend these books to anyone who just wants some tips on drawing certain things they may not be comfortable with or knowledgeable of.

Great resource

I suppose I was looking for a book with an extreme amount of detail. This book may not have that, but it still is extremely close. The author manages to go into great detail of how to draw the characters in various angles. How to draw various body parts such as hands and feet is also included. I would reccomend this book to artists that already have a grasp on how to draw, but would like an additional resource and resevoir of information to improve their work.

My daughter loved it

Like most people I have an easy time drawing girls, but a REALLY hard time with the guys! This books goes step by step explaining how the male body should be drawn, then moves on to clothing the character, and finally only the features of men. It's really helpful, the shipping is quick, and now I find drawing men really fun and easy because of this book! I really suggest you buy it! Also because it's a really good deal on Amazon. It's too expensive elsewhere =] Enjoy!

I have used many of the "how to" series books, I was always looking for this one since I had others. The only thing I didn't like about it was there isn't much advice on how to draw the male figure. Like when draw the female figure, there are a lot points on how to keep the figure slender, eyes shape feminine, and hands as well! But for the males, its like, "oh, just remember men are more boxed-shaped and women are more round..." -___- Geez! Thanks for letting me know something I already knew! I was hoping the book was going to have some advice on how to keep a male look like a male besides from broad shoulders and muscle definition... But that's just me.

it does not show you everything you would like to know but its still useful to a point i know the arts a bit out dated but its still pritty useful in a way.
