About the Author

Timothy Keller was born and raised in Pennsylvania and educated at Bucknell University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary. His first pastorate was in Hopewell, Virginia. In 1989 he started Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City with his wife, Kathy, and their three sons. One word. "Incredible"! I have never been an avid reader of any kind. This book was recommended to me and I have not put it down. I have never experienced Christ in this format and quite frankly never knew it could exist for me. Dr Keller explains the life and death of Christ so beautifully that allows for readers to feel like they are actually at the events that took place.This book is incredible and highly recommended. You want to know who Christ is, truly know? Add this book to your collection. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely riveting book. It is not a light read and don't be concerned if it takes a day or two of meditation to really absorb a chapter. This book would make an outstanding small group Bible study. My daughter "loaned" me her book but I just couldn't stop underlining and writing revelations in the margin. So I bought her a new one and two more for dear friends. I've wept, sung praises to Jesus, and word-smithed words all through this book. If you are not sure about Jesus, read this book by a man who really knows Him personally. You might find that you are very glad you have become much better acquainted. I definitely am.

King's Cross is a study of the Gospel of Mark designed for both followers of Christ and would-be followers of Christ. Tim Keller's expertise is that he is always able to take a passage of Scripture and show how it's all about Jesus. Tim Keller’s excellent book “Jesus the King” is “an extended meditation” based upon a series he preached on the Gospel of Mark——a book he believes includes vital features of the Jesus narrative. This is not an exposition of the entire text of Mark, but rather an illumination of some of the more significant passages. Like the structure of the Gospel, the book is divided into two parts——the first half discusses the life of Jesus, while the second half discusses his death, resurrection and purpose. The writing style is accessible to the layperson, even those with little theological background. This is what Keller does so well, laying out an important subject in plain language for all, including new believers as well as unbelievers. This is a book you could give to just about anyone as a means of introducing that person to Jesus Christ. This book was a joy to read.

I came upon this book after viewing a video of Brigitte Gabriel's where she was speaking on a panel regarding the Benghazi murders when a Muslim woman asked a question about the ideology of terrorism. Mrs. Gabriel's answer was so authoritative and direct when she spoke about the irrelevance of peaceful Muslims in the world when the 15-25% of radicals want to kill us and our way of life. I had to know more about this woman who spoke so powerfully.I was thrilled to learn of two books written by Brigitte who experienced first hand how a democratic country like Lebanon can be overtaken by a violent and intolerant religion like Islam. In this book, she makes a comparison of the way of life in Lebanon as the same as the United States, and that we too can be defeated by the enemy if we do not heed the warnings. One important point the author makes is that we must listen to what the enemy is telling us which is that they want to take over the world for Allah by any means necessary. It is evident by the acts of terror around the world that they are serious about that threat.This book has permanently affected me. I will not be uneducated and uniformed again about politics and the war on terrorism which will be a constant problem for the world for many generations. I have always appreciated being born into the freedom I have enjoyed in the United States. For the first time, I feel like I can make a difference by sharing this book and my knowledge with those around me. The average American is so busy with there daily lives that they are unaware of the great evil that's living amongst us and ready to pounce. We must arm ourselves with knowledge, involve ourselves in local and federal governments, and become skilled at using weapons.

Although she was not a boy, the preferred gender in her community, her parents adored her.Her dad was a well-off, retired government employee, and the three of them enjoyed a truly blissful, idyllic life together in their little village."Marjayoun was a small, peaceful town ... with about three thousand citizens. There were Catholic and Protestant churches and a cemetery. The church bells rang for services, prayers, weddings, and funerals. We had a town center where we did most of our shopping, and one movie theater, which doubled as a place for community activities and school stage productions. There was a Catholic school, a private school, and public elementary and high schools. Some people were farmers who worked the fields down in the valley. Some were businessmen who had hardware stores, grocery stores, clothing stores, beauty parlors, and restaurants. We had an elected city council and mayor. It was a close-knit country town that you might drive through in five minutes."Each and every day, when Brigitte would return to her home, both parents would be waiting for her, with open arms, on the balcony of their beautiful home--even during a blizzard.In the evenings, the three of them would sleep together in the one room that had the kerosene heater--her perfumed mother hugging and kissing her on the one side, and her dad with the rough whiskers dong the same on the other."They sang me a lullaby. I could smell Mama’s perfume on her neck as I snuggled and gave her little kisses that made her hold me tighter. Her hair tickled my face as she moved, and I could hear the smile in her voice. I could feel Papa’s big fingers running through my hair and the stubble on his cheek as he gently kissed me. Our nightly ritual closed with their telling me, 'We love you higher than the skies, deeper than the oceans, and bigger than the whole wide world.'"Lebanon was the richest country in the Middle East. Christians and Muslims lived together in harmony. However, as time passed, Brigitte became aware of the dark side of multiculturalism."We were so deluded with our multiculturalism that we did not realize the risk of losing the very culture we prided ourselves on having. We did not realize that the intolerant Islamic side of our culture was gaining strength on the back of our Western openness and pride in diversity. With our open-border policy, we unwittingly allowed what would turn out to be our enemy to infiltrate our society to plot and fight with radicals within to gain control of our government. .... The problems started in 1968, shortly after Lebanon accepted its second wave of Palestinian refugees."At the age of ten, when the first barrage of rockets was launched by the Muslims, one exploded on their balcony. Another landed in Brigitte's bedroom, severely wounding her. “I woke up from the dream of a perfect childhood and found myself in a hellish nightmare."The remainder of the book is mostly devoted to describing the terror of she, her parents and their longtime friends all living together in a 10-foot x 12-foot bomb shelter.Toward the end of this time, when her mother becomes severely wounded and is dying from severe blood loss, a neighbor volunteers to drive Brigitte and her mom to an Israeli hospital across the southern border of Lebanon. As a result of what turns out to be a three week stay, Brigitte learns that Israelis--the first she had ever met--are nothing like she had been told in Lebanon. Instead, they are the kindest and most generous people she had ever known.Because of her experiences with professional women in the hospital, Brigitte becomes aware that, despite being a woman, she too has the potential to become a professional--and does so. I'll stop here so as not to ruin the story for others.As is obvious from the cover of her book, Ms. Gabriel is very concerned not to say terrified that Americans are going to become aware of the dangers of large-scale Islamic immigration to the US only when it is too late for them to avoid the fate that she experienced in Lebanon.

Brigitte is an excellent author who writes from personal experience. Her native Lebanon was once a prosperous liberal open society until it was destroyed by radical Islam. This book was written in 2006 and it is truly remarkable to see what has transpired in 10 years thanks to ineffectiveness on the part of both the US and European governments and "political correctness ". Not only do we have ISIS but we also have our president & elected officials continuing to deny/ignore the FACTS that Islam is not a peaceful religion & that it has an agenda to destroy everything we hold dear in our liberal society. As a Christian convert with Jewish blood I am very concerned over the events taking place right now in Europe where Christians & Jews are being assaulted in France as they exit their worship services. This is not being reported much due to political correctness. France will surely be the next Lebanon. If you value your life & the lives of your loved ones, do yourself a huge favor & ignore the mainstream media opinions & analysis when the next terror attack takes place. Listen to an expert who has lived through it all; that expert is Brigitte !

I am going to preface this review by saying that I have a general disdain for graphic novels. There was a time that I would never elect to read one of my own volition. That all changed when I was assigned Maus for an English class. Upon hearing that our syllabus included a graphic novel, I groaned in tacit protest. I read both volumes of Maus cover to cover before the assigned completion date, and was very moved by the story, which is about a son trying to understand his Holocaust-survivor father. There are no images of humans in this book--the Jews are portrayed as mice, the Nazis as cats, and the Poles as pigs. The protagonist has always felt a void between he and his father, but develops some understanding and compassion as he begins interviewing him about his experiences in the Holocaust. In terms of Holocaust literature, I would deem this a "must-read".

Browsing through the reviews and comments about Maus, I saw that there was some question as to whether the hardcover edition comprised Parts I and II. This is understandable because the product is listed in Amazon as "The Complete Maus: A Survivor's Tale (No 1)," which seems contradictory.When I was considering purchasing it, I looked at the number of pages that were listed for the edition and guessed that it included both parts of the story. So I bought it, it arrived fine, and I am now writing to confirm that yes, this edition includes I and II.Amazon should look into this and remove the "(No 1)" from the listing's title.

I rarely read graphic novels or comics, but found this a very interesting read. The author has found a very clever way to write a feature-length comic-book novel, telling an accessible mini-history of his father's experiences during the WWII Holocaust in Poland (his father and mother being survivors of the camps), intermingled with a second "current-day" story line illustrating his father's current domestic challenges and the author's own, sometimes fraught relationship with him.The story is extremely easy to understand and follow when laid out this way, even though I already knew most of this from a more general historical perspective. Showing different nationalities as different animals is a clever way to help keep the players straight.I strongly disagree with the criticism leveled by other reviewers that try to assign some significance to the animals chosen for each nationality, My own belief is that the only choice meant to convey any real meaning was that of showing Jewish characters as mice and Nazis as cats, illustrating the relative "power" that the cats had over the mice, and the fact that the "mice" were always being hunted and could not even safely walk on streets where there were "cats." The one or two French were shown as frogs, the Americans were dogs, and the Poles were pigs. Those who believe the author somehow intended any of these to be broader comments on those nationalities, for better or worse, are just reading too much into it. In particular, showing Poles as pigs was not intended to be an insult, and those who think otherwise are just looking for reasons to be offended.Some of the comic illustrations were very inventive. At some points in the story, the author's father is walking around in Poland amongst the general population (outside the Jewish ghetto, that is), and acting as though he belongs there, knowing that it will not be easy to tell he is Jewish if he acts like he belongs there; in effect, he is "masquerading" as a Pole, and the cartoons of these scenes show him with a pig mask over his normally mouse face, showing that he is passing for a Pole.Certainly nothing about the Holocaust is anything to laugh at, and in fact, in most treatments on the subject, too much detail can sometimes overwhelm a reader. The author suspends his father's narrative at regular intervals and cuts to their present-day conversation, where they talk about his father's domestic situation, his health, his personal frugality and other habits, etc. This is a mini-drama all my itself that at times can almost be amusing, and gives the reader a periodic break from the heavier part of the story. You can also see how certain ways that his father behaves have been influenced by his experience.This is a interesting way to learn about a part of history that too many these days seem to be strangely unaware of. (When I was growing up, everyone knew about this.) It is easily read and understood, and even at almost 300 pages, I read it in less than a day.

One man's story of how he and his wife survived the Holocaust told in graphic novel format; and another story of a man (the author) and his difficult and contentious relationship with his father (the surviving man).The senior Spiegelman's story, as told to the author, his son, is cleverly and uniquely told after many years have passed. During the times the father recounts his, and his wife's, life in Poland and in Auschwitz, I almost felt like I was there. Touching, frightening and revealing this is one of those books that should be required reading in our educational system. As time goes by, and more and more concentration camp survivors pass away, I fear that the story of man's greatest inhumanity to man will also pass away. The story of the Holocaust, the people, the unbelievable circumstances that allowed it to happen, is something that must not be forgotten. The saying "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" is very true and the thought of this happening again is unfathomable.We, the human race, have had other similar events happen more recently; Rwanda, Cambodia's Killing Fields, and so on are not as publicized as the Holocaust but they are just as horrible. Those stories need to be added to ones like Maus to show that these things can, and will, happen if we don't take steps to stop them. Knowledge is the key and this book is one tool in our toolbox of knowledge. Experience it and NEVER FORGET.

I have been meaning to get this book and its sequel for many years. I bought it recently for my grandson and read both books before giving it to him. This is a very personal account of the holocaust. The members of my family who survived all left in the mid thirties. None of the rest survived, so this description of what it was like inside the area of German control was a first for me. As a graphic novel, this is a complex art form combining visual and verbal components. I'm not a comic book fan, nor did I read many when I was a child. But I found this format intriguing. I learned a lot and the format stimulated a lot of thinking.

This book is great for beginning beginners. Not for people who read up on crypto daily.I will not be HODLing this book.

The single worst book (of any type) I've come across in years! The level of detail and writing style is terrible. This book is not worth your time or money. I found this book posted multiple times...and was showing a 5 stars (what a bunch of bull). The necessary and essential details related to Ethereum, blockchain, DAO, and descriptions about the "the potential" of the related technologies are 'absent' from this book. There are much better resources than this.

Easy read, fun to learn about.

I enjoyed the book. This was actually my first audiobook, and I will never go back. The voice isn't the most exciting (to be fair, it is a fairly boring topic). However, the book was full of usefull information. I did not learn much, but I did learn more about the difference between Ethereum and Ethereum Classic. I would say this book would be more suited for "noobs"? lol. If you have never really experienced cryptocurrency then you will really learn alot from this book. He goes into detail on different types of wallets and exchanges with lists of pros and cons. I already have several GPUs mining away, so I was very familar to this topic already. But like I said, someone just starting out will learn alot from this!

Just trying to explain what ethereum is and some basics. No technical stuff. Most discussions are shallow. Ok to know but not enough.

It's a good short read for someone new to Ethereum and Blockchain. Would definitely recommend anyone that have heard about Ethereum but don't know what it actually is to read it. However, do not expect to become an expert after reading it, it should only be a start

Great job with this, it's detailed, it gets into the tech but it stays to true to a basic reading level in terms of being accessible for the masses. I learned a lot from this book.

About the Author
Gordon Ramsay's radical career change at 17 years old led him to London and to huge success as chef, restaurant-empire-builder and TV star. Gordon has published ten bestselling recipe books and has starred in the hugely successful television series Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Hell's Kitchen, The F Word and Gordon Ramsay's Cookalong Live. In 2006 he was appointed OBE. Mark Sargeant first worked with Gordon Ramsay at Aubergine before spending three years as Sous Chef at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea. He left there to open the highly acclaimed Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's where he is Head Chef.
